DSA Bands Behavior/Attendance Policy
BANDS BEHAVIOR AND ATTENDANCE RULESATTENDANCE TO ALL REHEARSALS AND CONCERTS IS MANDATORY.

BEHAVIOR
Expected behavior in the Band Department is always based on a positive, professional attitude, which respects all instructors and students.  Comments in the rehearsals are always welcomed when the student is recognized by the director.  Students are reminded that their standing in the Denver School of the Arts is dependent on progress in academic and arts areas as well as in their overall attitude.  Students are constantly reminded that they are part of a team at DSA and in DSA bands – behavior reflecting a professional, collaborative and positive attitude is always demanded.

ABSENCES
All band rehearsals and performances are mandatory.  If a student is ill or has an unavoidable conflict please let Mr. Hammond know as soon as possible through email.  dave_hammond@dpsk12.org
Always send an excuse note with your student the day after they are absent.
Parents can also call into the school and leave a message regarding an absence.Absences will not be tolerated in the Instrumental Music Department.  All rehearsals and performances are mandatory in the Instrumental Music Department.  Failure to attend any rehearsal, class or performance may result in the dismissal from upcoming events and/or grade ramifications leading to expulsion from the department.

It is best to email Mr. Hammond in advance if an absence seems unavoidable.

TARDINESS
Excessive tardiness will not be tolerated  in the Instrumental Music Department either.  It is the responsibility of the student to know when each class and performance call is and to make it on time.  Consequences for excessive tardiness are as follows:

•    After 1 tardy Mr. Hammond will conference with the student.
  • After 2 tardies Mr. Hammond will call home.

•    After 3 tardies Mr. Hammond will set up a student/parent/teacher conference for re-admittance.

FOOD/WATER – CARE OF THE FACILITIES
Food and drink is never allowed in any of the Instrumental Music rooms.  Water is accepted in all classes and rehearsals.  All Band students will be held responsible for the care and upkeep of the area and to be guardians of the areas when other outside the department are present.  Students are expected to place their chair and music stand away after rehearsals unless otherwise instructed.  Students will be regularly asked to clean the area.
