Civic Expression Investigation

Civic engagement requires community members to be informed about their rights and responsibilities, to appreciate the history and fundamental processes of American democracy, to recognize and be respectful of different views, and to seek to solve problems on behalf of the public good.  Works by artists and writers shape their communities’ understanding of issues and articulate the possibilities of what their world could become.  National winners of this Scholastic art and Writing Awards prompt are eligible for $1000 awards!

 

Editorial Cartoon Prompt

An editorial cartoon is a drawing or illustration, series of artworks, or animated short films that offer commentary or criticism on current events, social events, or political topics.

Editorial cartoons record history, contribute social commentaries, and promote freedom of expression.  National winners of this Scholastic art and Writing Awards prompt are eligible for $1000 awards!

 

New York Life Bereavement Prompt

The New York Life Award, underwritten by the New York Life Foundation, elevates the voice of bereaved teens and creates healing conversations around grief. It provides six students whose works explore personal grief, loss, and bereavement with $1,000 scholarships.

 

One Earth Climate Change Prompt

The One Earth Award provides four students whose creative works encourage the awareness of, and meaningful responses to, pressing issues of human-caused climate change with $1,000 scholarships.
