Welcome to an exciting new adventure!

I wish to take this opportunity to welcome you all to a stimulating new year of school. I am Mr. Russell, your teacher and guide through literature and history. This year we will share excitement, intrigue, joy, sorrow, success and fun! You will be challenged. The only thing to remember is that you make the class shine, and with your help our success this year will be outstanding.

Please click on the above links in the menu bar to be directed to the appropriate class section.  Within each class you will find daily assignments, the semester breakdown, the word wall, and information/syllabus for the course.

Don’t forget to visit the resources page for some really cool sites you can visit and explore.  Some of these sites can help with research, and some are simply for fun.

I update the website daily with assignments and recommended links.  You can also always come and visit me in 220 or 222.  I am happy to help with work, questions, or confusion. Welcome to an exciting year!

One of my favorite poets: Langston Hughes
His poem “Democracy”

Democracy will not come
Today, this year
Nor ever
Through compromise and fear.

I have as much right
As the other fellow has
To stand
On my two feet
And own the land.

I tire so of hearing people say,
Let things take their course.
Tomorrow is another day.
I do not need my freedom when I’m dead.
I cannot live on tomorrow’s bread.

Is a strong seed
In a great need.

I live here, too.
I want freedom
Just as you.

Langston Hughes
