Richard Serianni

Richard Serianni began playing guitar in 1982, and has taught guitar privately and in public schools.  He has composed and arranged music for guitar in a variety of genres, including songs for bands, choir accompaniments and film.  He began performing professionally in 1985, playing a range of original and cover music, including rock, blues, funk and jazz.

Serianni studied classical guitar, music composition and music education at Castleton State College in Vermont, where he graduated in 1990 with a B.A. in music.  While at Castleton, he formed a band, Hurdy Gurdy, with a fellow music student, and in 1992 moved with the band to Boulder, Colorado.  In 1995, he began graduate work in music education with a focus on choral music at the University of Colorado at Boulder.  He received both his M.A. in music education and Colorado teaching license in 1998.

Serianni taught vocal music at New Vista High School in Boulder, Hodgkins Middle School in Westminster and from 1999 to 2007 guitar and choir at Kepner Middle School, part of Denver Public Schools (DPS).  From 2007 to 2010, he worked as the Arts Instructional Specialist for Middle Schools and High Schools in the DPS arts department.

Serianni joined Denver School of the Arts in 2010 as Director of Guitar Studies, creating the 6-12 Guitar Studies program.
